Aeropress Brew Guide
Two Aeropress Brewing Methods
The Aeropress is a simple, portable coffee brewer with tremendous flexibility. So much so that there are two different methods when using an Aeropress!
The Aeropress is a unique coffee brewing method that produces a rich, smooth cup of coffee. It’s a simple, easy-to-use coffee maker that doesn’t require any special knowledge or skills to use. It’s also very affordable, making it an excellent choice for people just starting out with brewing their own coffee. The Aeropress is also a great solution for people who want to brew a small amount of coffee at a time or for people who frequently travel, as it’s straightforward to pack up and take with you on the go. What is the difference between the Inverted Brew Method and the Traditional Brew Method?
While both the inverted and traditional brew methods result in a great cup of coffee, they will have slightly different tastes. The main difference between these two methods is the amount of time the coffee is in contact with the water before pressure begins to be applied. In the inverted method, the coffee is in contact with the water for as long as we choose to let it steep. This results in a little more control over the flavor of the resulting cup. In the traditional method, water will begin to drip through the filter as soon as it is poured into the chamber.
The Aeropress Inverted Brew Method
What you need to get started
- Your Aeropress
- An Aeropress filter
- 16g of your favorite very fine ground Nobletree coffee (or about 2 tbsp coffee)
- 195g of water just off of a boil (~200-205F | ~6.5 fl oz)
- A sturdy mug or decanter
- A stirrer (Aeropress helpfully includes a nice one)
Inverted Brewing Steps
- Place the paper filter into the cap and rinse to remove some of the paper taste.
- Place the plunger just in the chamber to create a seal, and invert the Aeropress so it stands on its handle with the open side facing up.
- Add the 16g of coffee to the open end of the Aeropress.
- Fill the chamber with about 100g of water just off of a boil, about halfway full, and stir the coffee solution until all of the ground coffee is saturated – about 2-3 stirs.
- Wait 30 seconds for the coffee to bloom. You may see the coffee solution bubble a little bit as some of the natural gases are released.
- Fill the chamber with the remaining 95g of hot water and stir again.
- After about 1 minute, attach the Aeropress cap with a filter to the opening and screw it on.
- Invert the Aeropress on top of a sturdy mug and begin to press the plunger down. The goal is to fully extract the coffee (depress the plunger fully) over the course of 25 seconds.
- Serve your perfectly brewed cup of Nobletree Coffee and enjoy!
Traditional Aeropress Brewing Method
What you need to get started
- Your Aeropress
- An Aeropress filter
- 14g of your favorite medium ground Nobletree coffee (coarser than for the inverted method)
- 200g of water just off of a boil (~200-205F | ~6.5 fl oz)
- A sturdy mug or decanter
- A stirrer (Aeropress helpfully includes a nice one)
Traditional Brewing Steps
- Place a paper filter into the cap and rinse to remove the paper taste. Screw the cap and filter into the end of the brewing chamber. Place the brewing chamber on your mug or decanter.
- Add 14g of your favorite Nobletree coffee.
- Start a timer and fill the chamber with 200g of boiled water. Stir a few times to ensure even saturation. Place the plunger on top of the chamber to retain heat.
- After 60 seconds, remove the plunger and stir three times with a gentle pushing motion.
- Replace the plunger and depress it slowly – the goal is to fully depress it and express the water in 20-30 seconds.
